Summary of Unit Care

Stepping Hill Hospital Neonatal Unit is a Local Neonatal Unit which works within the Greater Manchester Neonatal Network. We work very closely with the other Local Neonatal Units and Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Manchester to look after premature and poorly babies in Greater Manchester.

Some babies need to be transferred to another Neonatal Unit for further specialist care – if your baby needs to be transferred we will discuss this with you.

Parking & Public Transport Information

Buses to the hospital from Stockport are 192, 375, and 391. Hazel Grove and Great Moor train stations are within walking distance to the hospital.

Visiting Times

You are welcome to visit your baby at anytime.

Doctor’s rounds take place every day usually between 9.15 and 11.15  starting in the intensive care nursery.   However, these can sometimes last longer depending on the number of babies on the unit. You are very welcome to be with your baby during the Ward Round – the doctors will answer any questions you may have at this time or will arrange to meet you at another time if you cannot attend the Ward Round or a longer discussion is needed. The Nursing team will update you regularly also.

Other relatives and friends may visit your baby between 5pm – 7pm but you must be with them for security reasons.

Outside of visiting times you may want a significant other to be a support to you and your partner and that is ok however we restrict this to one person because of infection prevention and the safety of the babies on the neonatal unit.
