Stabilisation and Optimisation of Newborn Infant Course (SONIC)

20 March @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
£250

The principle behind the Stabilisation and Optimisation of Newborn Infant Course (SONIC) is to provide simulation-based learning around key areas of acute neonatal care which teams can encounter and find challenging. These include the stabilisation principles of the extremely premature infant, management of the term infant born with no/poor cardiac output and the difficult airway.

SONIC is unique in that one if its key principles is training in teams. It welcomes teams from LNUs and SCUs to attend as a cohort of 4 (2 medical and 2 nursing team members). These teams will work together in simulated low-frequency, but high-risk scenarios, similar to those encountered in real-life. The learning is therefore not just knowledge and skills, but also the development of team attitudes and behaviours. This enables staff members to acquire skills in their own teams and to then cascade their learning on their return to their own unit.

Key points:

  • Please remember to apply as teams of 4 only.
  • Since this is a team-based study day, individual applications cannot be accepted.
  • Each team should consist of 2 medical team members and 2 nursing team members.
  • Medical team members must be on the middle grade rota or above.

Once all 4 team members have been finalised, please apply by emailing SONIC@elht.nhs.uk with the completed application form.
